Future of thermal power plant in India


The future of thermal power plant especially coal based, will be in a not favourable position, I reckon.
Main reason- Environmental impact due to the emissions from fuel used, shortage of high quality fuel (low moisture content), scarcity of water & its quality.
We are well aware about the Conference of Party (COP21) Summit held recently in Paris. Their the talking point is all about global warming & minimising the greenhouse gases. For this they recommended avoid utilising excessive power from carbon footprints like Coal based powerplant and prefer renewable power viz. Solar Energy, Wind Power etc.
In order to meet the environment target benchmarked in the COP 21 meet, India should minimise the particulate matter from powerplant or they should go for non conventional way of getting power.
Our Government of India has already set a stringent norms for the emissions from powerplant. For the green bid they have modified the standards from earlier one.
1) The new standards are aimed at reducing emission of PM10 (particulate matter), Sulphur Dioxide, and Oxide of Nitrogen, which will in turn help in bringing about an improvement in the Ambient Air Quality (AAQ) in and around thermal power plants
2) In case of PM10, the new plants (Installed after Dec 31, 2016)  will have to restrict the emission to 30 mg per cubic meter as compared to 100 mg per cubic meter in older plants.
3) Similarly, in case of SO2 and NOx, the new plants will have to restrict the emission at 100 mg per cubic meter as compared to 600 mg per cubic meter of the older plants, irrespective of the installed capacity of the power generating unit.
Now in order to meet this norms Power suppliers will invest/ cautious in spending more in sophisticated pollution control equipments. The cost of power generation may increase.
Also power producers may think of switching over from sub critical boiler pressure to super critical boiler pressure for maximizing the efficiency. This needs technological advancements (Engineering level) & huge investments in special materials for manufacture of boiler & its auxiliaries.
Hence switching over to renewable energy will be in increasing trend. But they (renewable energy) wont fulfil our energy demand completely.

During the press conference to announce NOKIA being acquired by Microsoft, Nokia CEO ended his speech saying this “we didn’t do anything wrong, but somehow, we lost”. Upon saying that, all his management team, himself included, teared sadly.
Nokia has been a respectable company. They didn’t do anything wrong in their business, however, the world changed too fast. Their opponents were too powerful.
They missed out on LEARNING, they missed out on CHANGING, and thus they lost the opportunity at hand to make it big. Not only did they miss the opportunity to earn big money, they lost their chance of survival.
The message of this story is, if you don’t change, you shall be removed from the competition.
It’s not wrong if you don’t want to learn new things. However, if your thoughts and mindset cannot catch up with time, you will be eliminated.
Conclusion:
1.    The advantage you have yesterday will be replaced by the trends of tomorrow. You don’t have to do anything wrong, as long as your competitors catch the wave and do it RIGHT, you can lose out and fail.
2.    To change and improve you is giving yourself a second chance. To be forced by others to change, is like being discarded. Those who refuse to learn & improve, will definitely one day become redundant & not relevant to the industry. They will learn the lesson in a hard & expensive way.
3.    Improvement is always open to those who are willing and determined to do it gradually.

India's present research status


India's present research status:
1) India's receiving 2,00,000 Full time research scholars annually. India is producing 9,000 Ph.D's per year. Four times lower than US, which is having 1/4th of Indian Population.
2) India- 4 researchers : 10,000 labour force; China- 18 researchers: 10,000 labour force; Brazil- 7:10,000 & Kenya- 6:10,000!!. Kindly note India is far behind Kenya.
3) No. of Papers published by the researchers, India 25,000 in 2000 & 90,000 in 2013; Whereas China from 50,000 in 2000 to 3,10,000. Considerable increase in papers by China.
4) India most importantly of having 600 Universities, 40 CSIR labs, Premier institutions like IISc, 16 IITs & 5 IISER is the long standing talking point on whether there is no takers for research or no lab facilities for doing research.

Studying Science Courses with 100% scholarship from 6th standard to Ph.D from the age of 11 to 32!!!

Department of Science & Technology (DST) with the idea of increasing noble laureates in India has created a innovative programme in Dec 2008 called Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (#INSPIRE) for attracting country's young talent and encourage them to study science courses for strengthening &expanding the R&D base in India.
It is a programme with long term foresight.
INSPIRE has three components:
Summary of INSPIRE scheme
i. Scheme for Early Attraction of Talent (SEATS)
a) INSPIRE Award, to 6th to 10th students with Rs. 5,000/- is given to the students, who would utilize about 50% of the amount for making a science project / model and balance 50% towards cost of bringing project / model at District Level Exhibition Centre for display. Two students were selected by the school head. The marks required from 10th is above 471 out of 500.
b) INSPIRE internship at IISc Bangalore, aims at 11th graders in science stream to interact with the scientists & top most faculties to discuss about the Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Earth Sciences.
ii. Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE)
Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) aims at attracting talented youth into undertaking higher education in science intensive programmes, by providing scholarships and mentoring through 'summer attachment' to performing researchers. This scheme offers 10,000 scholarships every year @ Rs.80,000/- each for undertaking Bachelor and Masters level education in the Natural & Basic sciences, ( (1) Physics, (2) Chemistry, (3) Mathematics, (4) Biology, (5) Statistics, (6) Geology, (7) Astrophysics, (8) Astronomy, (9) Electronics, (10) Botany, (11) Zoology, (12) Bio-chemistry, (13) Anthropology, (14) Microbiology, (15) Geophysics, (16) Geochemistry, (17) Atmospheric Sciences and (18) Oceanic Sciences)
Eligibility: Top 1% in 12th standard (or) secured top 10,000 ranks in the Joint Entrance Examination of JEE-Advance, JEE-Main plus those clearing NEET.
Scholarship: Rs. 8000 per month for B.Sc. & Rs. 12,000 per month for M.Sc
iii. Assured Opportunity for Research Careers (AORC)
Aims at attracting, attaching, retaining and nourishing talented young scientific Human Resource to strengthened the R&D foundation and base by offering doctoral a) INSPIRE Fellowship in the age group 22-27 years, in both Basic and Applied sciences (including engineering and medicine).
Eligibility: 1) University 1st Ranker at PG level examination 2) INSPIRE scholar, who have secured aggregate marks of 65 % are above at the 2 year MSc or 5 year Integrated MSc/MS.
Fellowship: Rs. 20,000 upto 5 years.
b) INSPIRE Faculty Scheme. young researchers in the age group of 27-32 years. It is expected to augment high quality scientific manpower in scientific and educational institutions
Eligibility: Ph.D, Publications with aggregate Impact Factor 10
Amount given: Each selected INSPIRE Faculty shall be eligible to receive a consolidated amount equivalent to the scale of the Assistant Professor of an IIT as Fellowship amount. In addition, a Research Grant of Rs 7 lakh per year for 5 years shall also be provided to each successful candidate.
I have spent lot of time in manuscript this. This I got to know from the educationalist Neduchezian from one of the Neeya Naana show. He had given outline but I researched to depth for the final outcome, from his inspiration I have made this.
